Momentum Massage Therapy
Registered Massage Therapy

Do I need a referral for massage therapy?

by Bruce Jackson, Registered Massage Therapist on April 19, 2007

The answer is NO and MAYBE…

NO: You do not need a referral to visit a massage therapist (RMT). RMTs are trained to assess and treat many soft tissue injuries and conditions. We are part of the health care system in Ontario and are primary health care providers. As such, no referral is needed.

MAYBE: Your insurance provider for extended health care benefits may require you to have a physcian’s referral in order for you to be reimbursed. Please check with your insurance company prior to submitting a claim to avoid any surprises.
